Trio+ (“Trio Plus,” left to right): Wolfram Koessel, cello; Yosuke Kawasaki, violin and Vadim Serebryany, piano.

The members of Trio +, pronounced “Trio Plus,” expand the idea of what a traditional piano trio could be through creative programming and by infusing their performances with unique atmospheres. Friends of Music knows of the group through our longtime friend and mentor cellist Wolfram Koessel.

For the last ten years they have performed together in various combinations across five continents. Their first critically acclaimed performance as a piano trio was given at the Sydney Festival 2003 (Australia) in collaboration with the Mark Morris Dance Group. Their Japan debut took place at Symphony Hall and Suntory Hall with Century Orchestra Osaka performing the Beethoven Triple Concerto in 2008.

Trio+ is deeply committed to the further advancement of music education. Their productions at Art Tower Mito in 2005 and 2008 featured paintings and words in addition to the music. Their use of multimedia to stretch the boundaries of the student’s imagination to include alternative forms of art has received rave reviews.

Violinist Yosuke Kawasaki is the Concertmaster of the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Canada, Principle Guest Concertmaster of the Century Orchestra Osaka, as well as a member of Mito Chamber Orchestra and Saito Kinen Orchestra. Pianist Vadim Serebryany is currently a faculty member at Huntingdon College. Cellist Wolfram Koessel is the cellist of the American String Quartet, a faculty member at the Manhattan School of Music and the former Music Director for the Mark Morris Dance Group.

Please note: This concert takes place on Saturday April 19th; it will not be on a Sunday as our concerts usually are. The third Sunday in April this year is Easter Sunday, and Trio+ was not available either the previous or the following weeks so we decided to have the concert on Saturday instead. If you're in the area please join us for this first concert of our 28th Season, and help us inaugurate our new venue at Robinson Terrace!

Thank you to all of our donors and especially to the Robinson-Broadhurst Foundation for your generous support which makes this concert possible.
