The current lineup of the Juilliard Jazz Ensemble features Dave Baron (bass)\, David Neves (trumpet)\, Adam Birnbaum (piano)\, and Jimmy Macbride (drums).   Manhattan’s Juilliard School is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading music schools. Juilliard Jazz\, under the leadership of director Wynton Marsalis\, offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees as well as artist diplomas. The department’s programming reflects the jazz continuum and its American vernacular roots\, as well as the social and cultural vitality of the music. Juilliard Jazz ensembles play more than 50 on- and off-campus performances annually\, including international tours\, as well as performances at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Blue Note in New York City. \n\nEveryone has a story to tell. Jazz bassist Dave Baron lets his instrument do the talking. He has demonstrated his skills supporting such jazz luminaries as Herbie Hancock\, Eric Reed\, Joe Lovano\, Peter Bernstein\, Joe Magnarelli\, Benny Green\, Jimmy Greene\, Wycliffe Gordon\, Walt Weiskopf\, Lew Tabackin\, Mary Stallings\, and many others. In 2009\, Baron was selected as one of fifteen semi-finalists from around the world for the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Bass Competition. As part of the competition\, he performed at Baird Auditorium at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History with drummer Carl Allen and pianist Geoff Keezer. In 2011\, Baron won second place for the International Society of Bassists’ Scott LaFaro Jazz Competition.David holds a bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies and Contemporary Mediafrom the Eastman School of Music and a master’s degree in Jazz Performance from the Juilliard School. \n\nAdam Birnbaum is emerging as one of the top young voices in jazz piano. Since receiving a graduate Artist’s Diploma in jazz studies from The Julliard School in 2003\, he has become a presence on the New York City scene as a leader and sideman\, performing in such venues as the Village Vanguard\, the Blue Note\, Birdland\, the Jazz Standard and Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola. He has also performed on many national and world stages\, including the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival\, the Kennedy Center\, the Montreal Jazz Festival\, The Spoleto Festival\, The Red Sea Jazz Festival\, The Rockport Chamber Festival\, NPR Jazz Christmas\, and the Capetown Jazz Festival.As a leader\, Birnbaum has released four albums under his name in Japan and the U.S. His first release\, Ballade Pour Adeline\, received a Gold Disk award from Swing Journal as one of the top albums of 2006. Adam’s U.S. debut Travels\, released in 2009 under the Smalls record label\, received enthusiastic reviews in Allmusic.com\, All About Jazz and JazzTimes. Birnbaum’s recent release Three of A Mind\, featuring bassist Doug Weiss and drummer Al Foster\, was hailed as “an eloquent dispatch from the heart of the contemporary piano trio tradition” by the New York Times\, and received an Editor’s Pick and four star review in Downbeat magazine.As a sideman\, Birnbaum’s wide-ranging versatility and artistry have made him a first call for a wide variety of ensembles. He is currently a member of the Al Foster Quartet\, Darcy James Argue’s Secret Society\, and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. Adam has also performed or toured with established jazz artists such as Greg Osby\, Regina Carter\, Cecile McLorin Salvant and Jazz at Lincoln Center with Wynton Marsalis.Born and raised in Boston\, Massachusetts\, Birnbaum studied at the NewEngland Conservatory of Music before moving to New York City in 2001\, one of two pianists selected to participate in the Julliard School’s inaugural jazz studies program. In 2004 he won the American Jazz Piano Competition and became the American Pianists Association’s Cole Porter Fellow in Jazz.  Adam Birnbaum is currently an Assistant Professor of Jazz at SUNY Purchase. He is also a Steinway Artist. \n\nAt 30 years old\, David Neves is one of the most active and exciting trumpet players in New York City’s music scene. A graduate of the Juilliard School\, Neves has performed with some of musics most accomplished and well-known musicians in the world\, including Wayne Shorter\, Dave Liebman\, Arturo O’Farrill\, Ellis Marsalis\, Randy Weston\, among many others. David’s talents have taken him all over the globe to venues such as the Tokyo Jazz Festival\, the Fandango Fronterizo Festival in Tijuana\, Mexico\, Abu Dhabi\, the Torino Jazz Festival\, the Newport Jazz Festival\, and the Panama Jazz Festival.In February 2014\, Neves independently released “Progress Report”\, his first full-length album as a leader and composer.  \n\nJimmy Macbride is a drummer/composer based in New York City. He has performed with a wide variety of artists including Terence Blanchard\, Kenny Barron\, Jimmy Greene\, and Adam Rogers.Jimmy is a graduate of The Juilliard School\, where he studied privately with Carl Allen\, Billy Drummond and Kenny Washington. He is a regular performer throughout New York City\, performing at such venues as Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola\, Smalls\, The Jazz Gallery\, and The Blue Note. His musical talents have also taken him worldwide\, touring across Europe\, Asia\, and North America. Jimmy has also appeared at some of the world’s most famous venues\, including the Monterey Jazz Festival\, North Sea Jazz Festival\, and Newport Jazz Festival\, among others. He performs regularly with different groups and artists including Nir Felder\, Eldar Djangirov\,Manuel Valera\, Samuel Torres\, Miki Yamanaka\, Lucas Pino’s Nonet\, Troy Roberts\, and the Roxy Coss Quintet. In addition\, he can be seen playing with many of New York’s most creative and forward-thinking artists\, including Lage Lund\, Ben Street\, Kevin Hays\, Fabian Almazan\, Melissa Aldana\, Matt Brewer\, Michael Rodriguez\, and Dayna Stephens\, among many others. He is also an active recording artist\, appearing on over 40 albums to date.

Whether it be a transcendent Op 132 or an effervescent Op 18\, Ignaz was the guy for the job. But even before Beethoven ever put pen to paper on his first quartet\, he composed a set of three string trios\, the premiers of which were given by none other than that lifelong comrade and musical devotee\, Schuppanzhig. \n\n\n\nGreat composers often develop beautiful relationships with their favorite performers\, many times leading to great artistic collaborations. And Caroline Shaw’s relationship with the Attacca quartet\, affectionately called the Rothko Collective\, is certainly no different. Caroline’s interest in color\, as suggested by her ensemble name\, also reveals itself in the title of her piece Thousandth Orange. Here\, Shaw colors her music with a thousand shades of orange through her imaginative musical textures and emotional subtlety. \n\n\n\nLike Beethoven with Op 9 and Shaw with her Thousandth Orange\, Johannes Brahms was also around 30 years old when he wrote this g-minor piano quartet. And just as with the other pieces\, Brahms enlisted his close friend\, the virtuoso pianist Clara Schumann to deliver the premier. Already in his twenty fifth opus\, Brahms conveys his deep love for the rustic musical styles that pervaded the villages of his eastern countryside. A rich culture of roving bands inspired the finale; Brahms’ “Gypsy Rondo”. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\nDavid Kaplan\, pianist\, has been called “excellent and adventurous” by The New York Times\, and praised by the Boston Globe for “grace and fire” at the keyboard. He has appeared as soloist with numerous orchestras\, including the Britten Sinfonia and Das Sinfonie OrchesterBerlin. Known for diverse and creative recital programs\, he has appeared at the Ravinia Festival\, Washington’s National Gallery\, Strathmore\, and Bargemusic. Kaplan’s New Dances of the League of David\, mixing Schumann with 16 new works\, was cited in the “Best ClassicalMusic of 2015” by The New York Times. \n\n\n\nKaplan has collaborated with the Attacca\, Ariel\, Enso\, Hausman\, and Tesla String Quartets\, and is a core member of Decoda\, the Affiliate Ensemble of Carnegie Hall. He has appeared at the Bard\, Seattle Chamber Music\, Mostly Mozart\, and Chamber Music Northwest festivals\,and is an alumnus of Tanglewood\, Ravinia-Steans Institute\, and the Perlman Music Program.Passionate about teaching\, Kaplan was appointed Assistant Professor of Piano at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music in 2020. With a FulbrightFellowship\, he studied conducting at the Universität der Künste Berlin with Lutz Köhler\, and received his DMA from Yale University in 2014. Preferring Yamaha and Bösendorfer pianos\, David is proud to be a Yamaha Artist.  \n\n\n\n\n\nMichelle Yeunhae Lie\, violinAs a recent 1st prize winner of Golden Classical Music Awards 2020\, Michelle has shared the stage with some of the finest performers such as Itzhak Perlman\, Toby Appel\, Andrés Cárdenes\, Eric Kim\, Mark Kaplan\, Atar Arad and Jon Nakamatsu.Currently\, Michelle serves as String Department Chair and a faculty at Brooklyn Music School\, NY and is a teaching artist with the Midori and Friends while actively performing with the Tesla Quartet and Baltimore Symphony among many other collaborations.Born in Munich\, Germany\, and raised in South Korea\, her musical education in violin started at the age of 14 from the influence of her vocalist father. Michelle received her Doctor of Music Degree in 2013 from Indiana University.Since joining the Tesla Quartet in 2011\, she has won numerous prizes at international competitions\, including the Gold Medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition; Second Prize\, Haydn Prize and Special Award for Canadian Commission at the 2016 Banff International String Quartet Competition in Canada; and Third Prize at the Wigmore Hall London International String Quartet Competition in 2012. \n\n\n\n\n\nEdwin Kaplan\, violaViolist of the award-winning Tesla Quartet and the newly formed Duo Kayo\, Edwin Kaplan continues to forge a versatile identity as a recitalist\, chamber musician\, and educator. He has performed on concert series across North America\, Europe\, and Asia\, including Wigmore Hall\,Lincoln Center\, and Tanglewood Music Center.Edwin is a Doctor of Musical Arts and received a Master of Music degree and an Artist Diploma from the Yale University School of Music.  \n\n\n\nHe is proud to serve his community as an advocate for music education. One of his most treasured projects is the Tesla Quartet’s annual call for scores\, for which he combs through hundreds of recently composed string quartets submitted by composers from all over the world. Through his work with the Tesla Quartet\, he performs outreach at community primary schools and high schools and has given masterclasses at universities across North America. \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\nJared Blajian\, cello\, has performed as soloist as well as a chamber and orchestral musician on some of the most prominent stages in the world including Carnegie Hall and Severance Hall in Cleveland. He is committed to engaging audiences\, communicating passion and joy\, and changing lives through music. Blajian has taught at the Pascale Music Institute in Pasadena\, CA\, in community engagement through the Cleveland Institute\, the Sitka Cello Seminar\, the Heifetz Institute\, andthe Perlman Music Program.  \n\n\n\nA dedicated chamber musician\, Jared has studied with members of the Cleveland\, Guarneri\, and Juilliard quartets along with members of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio. At the Cleveland Institute\, he was a member of the Intensive String Quartet Seminar\, run by members of the Cavani Quartet\, and the Advanced Piano Trio Program\, led by cellist Sharon Robinson. He has attended festivals including Music@Menlo\, the International Musician’s Seminar at Prussia Cove\, the New York String Orchestra Seminar\, the Perlman Music Program\, ENCORE Chamber Music Institute\, and the Heifetz Institute — where he was selected to participate in both a “Heifetz on Tour” and the inaugural “Heifetz-Ensemble-in-Residence” program. Captivating audiences and critics ranging from Carnegie Hall to school classrooms to radio and television broadcasts\, the quartet consistently performs to enthusiastic acclaim throughout the country. \n\n\n\nFormed in Ohio in 1998\, the Euclid Quartet takes its name from the famous Euclid Avenue in Cleveland\, home to a wealth of renowned artistic and cultural institutions. Within three years\, the ensemble was awarded the String Quartet Fellowship of the Aspen Music Festival\, where it was invited to return for the subsequent summer’s concert season. The quartet was also invited to study with the Emerson String Quartet at the Carnegie Hall Professional Training Workshop. \n\n\n\n\nHighlights of the Euclid Quartet’s career include significant global recognition as the first American string quartet to be awarded a top prize at the prestigious Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. Prior to its Japanese laurels\, the quartet also won awards in numerous United States competitions\, including the Hugo Kauder International Competition for String Quartets\, The Carmel Chamber Music Competition and the Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition. In 2009\, the Euclid Quartet was awarded the esteemed “American Masterpieces” grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. \n\n\n\nThe Euclid is a frequent guest ensemble at American and Canadian music festivals\, among them the Aspen\, Mostly Modern\, Great Lakes\, Kent/Blossom and Orford festivals\, while expanded programs have included collaborations with internationally renowned artists\, including James Dunham\, Gregory Fulkerson\, Warren Jones\, Paul Katz\, Joseph Silverstein and Alexander Toradze.  \n\n\n\nIn 2007\, the Euclid Quartet was appointed to the prestigious string quartet residency at Indiana University South Bend\, where its members teach private lessons and coach chamber music. The American Record Guide raved about these discs\, “rarely has a group found such meaning and vision.” Their debut CD\, on Centaur records\, features the first four quartets of Hugo Kauder\, a refugee from Nazi-occupied Austria who fled to the United States in the 1940s. He defied the atonal trend of his generation with his uniquely harmonic\, contrapuntal style. \n\n\n\nwww.euclidquartet.com \n\n\n\n\nCellist ADRIAN DAUROV is one of the most dazzling artists of his generation. \n\n\n\nAdrian Daurov\, at the age of 15\, made his debut as soloist with the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra. Subsequently\, he earned top honors at three international competitions – Bulgaria’s 1st International Music Competition “Coast of Hope” (First Prize\, 1996); The Netherlands’ Peter De Grote International Music Competition (Grand Prix\, 2002); New York City’s L.I.S.M.A. International Music Competition (First Prize\, 2004). In 2004\, he toured  as soloist with the St. Petersburg Chamber Orchestra\, performing in St. Petersburg\, Moscow\, Warsaw and throughout Germany\, and was appointed to the dual position of principal cellist and soloist with the Bayreuth Youth Festival Orchestra\, under the baton of Peter Gulke. 2008 heard him as a featured participant in a gala Carnegie Hall concert celebrating Russia’s Independence Day\, a program that included the distinguished Russian singers Yelena Obratztsova and Vladimir Galouzine. \n\n\n\n\nAfter studying at the St. Petersburg Conservatory\, Adrian Daurov was awarded the Jerome L. Greene Scholarship for advanced studies at The Juilliard School with renowned cello pedagogues André Emelianoff and  David Soyer\, where he completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. While still in school\, he was appointed principal cellist of The Chamber Orchestra of New York\, a position he still holds. Mr. Daurov has also collaborated in chamber music programs with pianist Alexander Ghindin\, violinist Mark Peskanov and flutist Eugenia Zukerman. Recent seasons have included debuts with the Dayton and Massapequa philharmonic orchestras\, the symphony orchestras of Altoona\, Bozeman\, Glacier\, Kalamazoo\, Longmont\, Longwood\, Ridgefield\, Westerville and Wyoming\, and the Chamber Orchestra of New York (at Carnegie Hall). In 2012\, he teamed up with the award-winning pianist Spencer Myer to form the Daurov/Myer Duo. \n\n\n\nPassionately devoted to the music of our own time\, Adrian Daurov has already presented the world premieres of two important works – In 2008\, Fountains of Fin for flute\, violin and cello by the Persian composer Behzad Ranjbaran and\, in 2009\, The Epistle – Concerto for Cello & Chamber Choir by the Siberian composer Yuri Yukechev\, written for Mr. Daurov and the Russian Chamber Chorus of New York\, Nikolai Kachanov\, Artistic Director. \n\n\n\nAdrian Daurov’s artistry has been heard on several radio and television stations\, including WNYC\, WQXR and NTV-America. In addition to being an avid cellist\, this monarch maintained an excellent orchestra\, and his musicality attracted the attention of many first-rate composers. Haydn\, Mozart\, Boccherini and Beethoven are the names most associated with him\, yet this program highlights lesser-known composers from Friedrich Wilhelm II’s orbit whose contributions to the cello’s increasingly virtuosic role were great. Graziani was Friedrich’s first teacher\, and the legendary Duport brothers carried on in this role while pushing the instrument’s limits. C.F. Abel\, a gambist and cellist of note who worked intimately with Johann Christian Bach\, dedicated works to Friedrich Wilhelm II that bridged the gap between baroque and classical aesthetics. The road paved by these composers led the way to Beethoven’s encounter with Wilhelm Friedrich II and the Duport brothers in 1796\, which yielded new works that put the fortepiano and the cello on an even playing field for the first time. \nAbout the ArtistsThe Hunt-Berry Duo is comprised of two artists who have dedicated their careers not just to historical instruments\, but to the study of late 18th and early 19th century performance practices. Shirley Hunt\, hailed for her Bach playing by The Strad as “…stylish and accomplished\,” recently became the first woman\, the first American\, and the first person of color to complete a compendium recording of J.S. Bach’s Suites and Sonatas for cello and viola da gamba. Sylvia Berry\, lauded by Early Music America Magazine as “…a complete master of rhetoric\, whether in driving passagework or cantabile adagios\,” made a critically acclaimed recording of Haydn’s London Sonatas on an 1806 Broadwood\, and has been featured as a soloist and chamber musician on a wide variety of historical keyboard instruments.

This followed an eventful 2019-20 season\, which included a debut with the Detroit Symphony for its opening concerts celebrating the Orchestra Hall Centennial\, performances at Town Hall Seattle and Eastman Presents\, a collaboration with the Brentano Quartet at Yale University and Carnegie Hall\, and headlining the 2020 WQXR Pride Celebrations in New York City. Highlights for the 2021-22 season include appearances with the Charleston\, Niagara\, Racine\, and Vallejo Symphony Orchestras\, performances with the Las Vegas Philharmonic together with Tessa Lark and Joshua Roman\, reuniting with the Dover Quartet at his debut with the Tucson Winter Chamber Music Festival\, and a special project with Nico Muhly at Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue in New York City. \n\n\n\nMr. Fung’s highly acclaimed debut with the Cleveland Orchestra at the Blossom Music Festival was “everything you could wish for” (Cleveland Classical)\, and he was further praised as an “agile and alert interpreter of Mozart’s crystalline note-spinning” (The Plain Dealer). In the following week\, he performed Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini at the Beijing National Stadium for their Olympic Summer Festival. He also performed the West Coast Premiere of Chen Qigang’s Piano Concerto\, “Er Huang”\, with the San Francisco Symphony. Other recent orchestral engagements include appearances with the symphony orchestras of Albany\, Arkansas\, Kitchener-Waterloo\, Israel\, Marin\, Southwest Florida\, Sun Valley\, Tacoma\, and Vallejo\, the Tampere Philharmonic\, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra\, the New Japan Philharmonic\, and Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie. An incisive interpreter of Mozart and Bach\, Mr. Fung has also appeared with the Israel\, Los Angeles\, Melbourne\, Orpheus\, and Saint Paul Chamber Orchestras. \n\n\n\nAs a recitalist and chamber musician\, Mr. Fung is a frequent guest artist at prestigious festivals and venues worldwide. The multi-instrumental quartet’s other not-nots encompass traditions from across America\, including bluegrass\, Appalachian fiddle tunes\, jazz\, and minimalism. Fueled by their passion for storytelling\, Invoke weaves all of these styles together to form a unique contemporary repertoire\, featuring original works composed by and for the group. \nMost recently the Young Professional String Quartet in Residence at the University of Texas at Austin\, Invoke has also participated in the Emerging String Quartet Program at Stanford\, and been selected as Artist in Residence at Strathmore\, the Emerging Young Artist Quartet at Interlochen\, and the Fellowship String Quartet at Wintergreen Performing Arts. In 2018\, the group was named a winner of the Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition in New York\, New York\, and won First Prize in the Open Category of the international chamber-arts competition M-Prize\, in Ann Arbor\, Michigan\, as well as First Prize in the Coltman Competition in Austin\, Texas. \nInvoke has shared the stage with some of the most acclaimed chamber groups in the country\, including the Ensō Quartet and the U.S. Army Field Band. Other professional highlights include performing in Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in New York as part of the YPCA program at the APAP conference\, a concerto appearance with the Brevard Sinfonia\, a weeklong residency at the Stanford Pre-Collegiate Institute\, and concerts as part of the NextNOW Festival at University of Maryland and Festival Amadeus in Montana. \nTheir 2015 debut release Souls in the Mud begins with original works that conjure images of America\, including the fast-paced opening track “Travesty” and “The Trace” (inspired by bourbon whiskey). The third and title track\, “Souls in the Mud\,” is an American transformation of a 16th century motet featuring banjo\, mandolin and a bluegrass-influenced boot-stompin’ finale. To round out the EP\, Invoke accompanies a historic recording of a haunting traditional English ballad\, and finishes with two compositions by prolific American composer Danny Clay. \nInvoke’s second EP Furious Creek\, released in Fall 2018\, is their first record to include vocals. The title track explores the relationship between humanity and nature with an evocative chant bookending energetic instrumental interludes. A fast-paced tune\, “Dogs\,” spotlights the banjo with a finger-picking\, bluegrass-inspired undertow\, and Karl’s elegiac setting of the Walt Whitman\, “O Captain! My Captain!” features Nick’s recitation. The EP wouldn’t be complete without a fan favorite closing number\, Invoke’s arrangement of the Stephen Foster classic\, “Hard Times.” \nBesides performing original music\, Invoke believes in championing diverse American voices through new music. Invoke’s ongoing commissioning project\, entitled American Postcards\, asks composers to pick a time and place in American history and tell its story through Invoke’s unique artistry.

He holds a GRAMMY for participation on Ted Nash’s\, “Presidential Suite” and is the first place winner of the 2017 J.C Heard National Drum Competition. In addition to touring Italy\, Russia\, and Switzerland\, Zach has served on faculty at the Jazz Institute at Brevard in North Carolina. Zach has recoded 4 albums as a sideman\, and one as a co-leader of the Becoming Quintet\, which earned a Jazztimes and Downbeat review. While in college at the Juilliard School\, Zach performed with the Juilliard Artist Diploma Ensemble\, in addition to being selected to participate in the JAS Aspen Academy and the Ravinia workshop. \n\n\n\nAlexa Tarantino is an award-winning\, vibrant\, young jazz saxophonist\, woodwind doubler\, composer\, and educator. In 2017\, the quartet finished first in the American Prize and won second prize at the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition. They were winners of the Vietnam International Music Competition in 2019. From 2017 to 2019\, Ulysses was in residence at the Louis Moreau Institute in New Orleans\, working with composer Morris Rosenzweig. \n\n\n\nIn fall 2019\, the Ulysses Quartet were named as Lisa Arnhold Fellows of the Juilliard School\, an appointment that has been extended through May 2022. \n\n\n\nConsisting of Christina Bouey and Rhiannon Banerdt on violin\, Colin Brookes on viola and Grace Ho on cello\, the quartet’s members hail from Canada\, the United States and Taiwan. Additionally\, the quartet’s members live in close proximity to the resting place of former U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant in Upper Manhattan. The Ulysses String Quartet believes intensely in the power of music to inspire\, enlighten and bring people together. The quartet is committed to sharing this passion by increasing access to and appreciation for classical music while enhancing audience engagement. To this end\, the quartet offers interactive programs and workshops for all ages that serve to demystify the traditional repertoire while introducing audiences to exciting new works. Their programs frequently enable participants to learn about the inner workings of a string quartet and to explore the connections between classical music and our world today. \n\n\n\nThe members of Ulysses hold degrees from the Juilliard School\, Manhattan School of Music\, New England Conservatory and Yale University. Yoonah is a winner of the 2016 Concert Artists Guild International Competition. The first solo clarinetist to win CAG in nearly 30 years\, this Korean-Canadian artist joins the ranks of prominent solo clarinetists discovered by CAG\, including David Shifrin\, Michael Collins\, and David Krakauer. \n\n\n\nRecent performance highlights include Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto with the Maui Chamber Orchestra\, George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue in a new arrangement for solo clarinet and string orchestra by Texu Kim\, and the World Premiere of a new concerto by Eric Nathan for Violin and Clarinet\, with violinist Stefan Jackiw and the New York Classical Players. Her recent chamber music appearances include performances of Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time with Stefan Jackiw\, cellist Jay Campbell and pianist Orion Weiss at Princeton University and the Crypt in New York City and also with the Junction Trio (Stefan Jackiw\, Jay Campbell\, and pianist Conrad Tao) at Rockefeller University.  \n\n\n\nYoonah recently made her New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall\, and has also given debut recitals for Chicago’s Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concerts series\, Washington Performing Arts’ Music in the Country series\, Chamber Music Society of Little Rock and Union County Performing Arts Center. DESCRIPTION:Misha Dichter\, pianist\n\n\n\nNow in the sixth decade of a distinguished global career\, MISHA DICHTER remains one of America’s most popular artists\, extending a musical heritage from the Russian Romantic School\, as personified by Rosina Lhevinne\, his mentor at The Juilliard School\, and the German Classical style that was passed on to him by Aube Tzerko\, a pupil of Artur Schnabel. He also studied composition and analysis with Leonard Stein\, a disciple of Arnold Schoenberg.  \n\n\n\nBorn in Shanghai to parents who had fled Poland at the outbreak of World War II\, Misha Dichter and his family moved to Los Angeles when he was two; he began studying the piano at five. At the age of 20\, while enrolled at the famed Juilliard School in New York City\, he won the Silver Medal at the 1966 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow\, which helped launch an enviable concert career. Shortly thereafter\, on August 14\, 1966\, Mr. Dichter was the guest soloist in a Tanglewood performance of Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with Erich Leinsdorf and the Boston Symphony Orchestra\, a concert that was broadcast nationally on NBC and subsequently recorded for RCA. Two years later\, he made his New York Philharmonic debut under the baton of Leonard Bernstein\, collaborating on the same concerto. Appearances with the Berlin Philharmonic\, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw Orchestra\, the principal London orchestras and every major American orchestra soon followed.  \n\n\n\nA recognized champion of Leonard Bernstein’s Symphony #2\, Age of Anxiety\, Misha Dichter performed this great work with David Zinman and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the 2016 Ravinia Festival. A noted exponent of Liszt’s piano works and a champion of the composer’s forward-looking contributions to the development of music\, Mr. Dichter was honored in 1988 with the “Grand Prix International du Disque Liszt\,” presented for his Philips recording of the master’s piano transcriptions. American Record Guide called the album “an unmitigated delight\,” and Music Web International named it a 2005 “Record of the Year.”  \n\n\n\nIn 2007\, Misha Dichter took a three-month hiatus from the concert stage to deal with the onset of Dupuytren’s Disease\, a contracting of one or more fingers. After totally successful surgery and physical therapy\, Mr. Dichter returned to public performance and became a supporter of\, and spokesperson for\, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand.
